Hello, I’m here to announce yet another hiatus! I’ll be back in May with more posts and reviews; I just need to take some time to recharge and also to write said posts in May lmao. I’m going to try to write a book rec post or two because I’ve been severely slacking on that front!

I’ll still be active on social media, so be sure to follow me on Twitter and Instagram! And I’ll definitely still be reading, if you want to see my reading updates on my Goodreads. What I have up next: (finally) finish my reread of These Violent Delights, possibly put aside the subsequent reread of Our Violent Ends and Foul Lady Fortune just so I can knock out some other rereads idk we’ll see, reread of Six of Crows after watching season 2 of the Shadow & Bone show, and reread Emma Mills books after finishing and adoring an ARC of her next release.

That’s it from me right now…be right back and see you all soon đź’ž

REVIEW: Throwback by Maurene Goo

**I received an ARC from the publisher through Netgalley. These are my honest opinions, and in no way was I compensated for this review.**

Book: Throwback by Maurene Goo

Release Date: April 11, 2023

My Rating: 3.5 stars

Rep: Korean-American protagonist and side characters, Latino love interest; (Korean-American author)

Summary: Back to the Future meets The Joy Luck Club in this YA contemporary romance about a Korean American girl sent back to the ’90s to (reluctantly) help her teenage mom win Homecoming Queen.

Being a first-generation Asian American immigrant is hard. You know what’s harder? Being the daughter of one. Samantha Kang has never gotten along with her mother, Priscilla—and has never understood her bougie-nightmare, John Hughes high school expectations. After a huge fight between them, Sam is desperate to move forward—but instead, finds herself thrown back. Way back.

To her shock, Sam finds herself back in high school . . . in the ’90s . . . with a 17-year-old Priscilla. Now this Gen Z girl must try to fit into an analog world. She’s got the fashion down, but everything else is baffling. What is “microfiche”? What’s with the casual racism and misogyny? And why does it feel like Priscilla is someone she could actually be . . . friends with?

Sam’s blast to the past has her finding the right romance in the wrong time while questioning everything she thought she knew about her mom . . . and herself. Will Sam figure out what she needs to do to fix things for her mom so that she can go back to a time she understands? Brimming with heart and humor, Maurene Goo’s time-travel romance asks big questions about what exactly one inherits and loses in the immigrant experience.

There are so many adult romance titles that I’m looking forward to this year! pick an emoji and i'll rec you a 2023 release (pt. 2) banner

It’s a new quarter of the year, and you know what that means: new “pick an emoji” rec post! While I was picking books for this post, I realized that there are so many great releases coming out in the next couple months. I hope you find something new to add to your TBR list from this post, so pick an emoji and I’ll recommend you a 2023 release (from April through June)!

Here is the first part of this post for this year, and you can also view all the previous posts in this series here. As usual, none of these emojis are spoiler-y (as far as I know); I typically pick them based on vibes and/or the cover of the book. Age range and genre details are also included with each title. Hope you enjoy this post, and let me know which emoji you picked in the comments!
